One of my favorite things to do in the world, is explore the city of Houston. I grew up here, in the suburbs, but now that I live within the city limits, I take every opportunity I can to enjoy all that it has to offer. To be honest, Houston has changed a lot over the last few years. It’s become an epicenter for food (I mean if I’m honest Houston has always been about food, but now, it’s much more snazzy)… but what I love most is that there is so much activity. What ever you enjoy, sports, music, art? It’s all here.
Over the last week I’ve had the opportunity to test drive the 2017 Toyota Corolla SE all over my wonderful city – and it’s been an awesome ride. On my daily adventures, I drive a Lexus IS250, so I was interested to see how the Corolla would compare. I must say, I’ve really enjoyed the features! I’m really passionate about my music, so the sound system is very important to me. The Corolla did not disappoint! It’s got an incredible touch interface… which also displays the backup camera. It’s super efficient on gas as well, which is extremely important for me because… these gas prices are TOO HIGH!
All that being said, I kicked off my Corolla journey with a trip to the SWAC Championship at NRG Stadium. I’ll always be a proponent of all things HBCU, because I’m a proud product of one (Hampton University.) This year’s SWAC contest was a rematch of last year’s championship, where Alcorn State took on Grambling, and came out on top. This year however, the tides shifted, and Grambling was able to pull out a come from behind win to take the trophy back home to Louisiana! The bands were on point, the crowds had spirit, and there was such a sense of pride everywhere. That’s one thing that I love about the HBCU experience. Pride is instilled from freshmen year, and it carries on beyond graduation. We go hard for our schools!
The rain somewhat put a damper on many of my plans, but I finally got to take the Corolla out for one of my favorite pastimes… Shooting street art. My friends send me art all the time via Instagram and I like to scout the locations for shoots. Houston has a lot of amazing art, but I decided to check out the Harrisburg Art Museum for the first time in the Corolla. I had been wanting to shoot a piece that my friend Tie sent me, an elephant created by WereOne. I also back tracked over to a spot I enjoy at Leeland & St. Emmanuel – the giant Justice mural struck me, especially with all that’s going on in the world right now.
All in all, I had a great time with the Corolla! It’s reliable and fun to drive… making this week’s adventures that much more fun!
Tweet me your favorite places to go in Houston! Especially if you have some secret art to share!
